Replacing a tooth with an implant has two parts that are priced separately: the implant, which is the titanium root, and the crown, which is the tooth you see. A bone graft is added only if your case needs it. Our list price for each part is in “Quick facts” above and on our price list. Implants and implant crowns are priced in U.S. dollars, so there’s no exchange-rate math. Your exact cost comes in writing after your exam, before any work begins.
What you pay for when you get an implant
1. The implant
A titanium post placed inside the jawbone to replace the tooth’s root. It goes in during a short surgery, then the bone needs 3 to 6 months to bond with it. It is priced per implant.
2. The crown on the implant
The final tooth you see and chew with, placed once the implant has integrated. There are two options:
- Porcelain-fused-to-metal: strong and the more affordable of the two.
- Metal-free: more natural-looking, without the dark line that can show at the gum over time; often preferred for front teeth.
Both work for chewing; the difference is price and appearance. The doctor recommends one based on the tooth and your bite.
3. A bone graft, only if needed
If the tooth has been missing for a while, the bone shrinks and sometimes isn’t enough to hold an implant. Then a bone graft is placed before or during the implant surgery. Many patients don’t need one; it is decided at the exam, based on how much bone you have.
4. Socket preservation, if you still have the tooth
If the tooth is still in your mouth and has to come out, the socket can be filled at the time of the extraction to protect the bone for a future implant. This can help avoid a larger graft later, so ask about it before the tooth is pulled.
What makes the cost different from one patient to the next
- How many teeth are missing. You don’t always need one implant per tooth; for several teeth in a row, a bridge on implants may make more sense.
- How much bone you have. This changes the plan more than anything: enough bone means no graft.
- Crown material. Porcelain-fused-to-metal or metal-free.
- Whether a tooth has to be pulled first. The extraction is billed separately. In some cases the implant goes in the same day (an immediate implant), depending on your bone and whether there is infection.
- Missing all upper or lower teeth. Then the option is a full-arch fixed bridge on implants, priced by material: titanium with PMMA, titanium with zirconia, or zirconia.
Why we can’t give you an exact price by phone
Two people who “need an implant” can have very different plans: one has good bone and the tooth is already out; another has an infection to treat first and not much bone. A photo or X-ray by WhatsApp lets us point you in the right direction, but the exact cost comes from the exam, where we check your mouth and bone.
After the exam we send you a written treatment plan as a PDF by WhatsApp, with the cost of each part listed separately. Nothing is done until you approve it.
Cheapest up front isn’t always cheapest
An implant is usually the most expensive option at the start, and it isn’t always the right one. A bridge is faster and takes fewer visits, but the two neighboring teeth have to be shaved down. A removable partial denture costs the least, but it comes out for cleaning and feels less stable. We compare them in detail in implant vs. bridge vs. denture.
With good hygiene, regular check-ups and no tobacco, an implant can last decades. What may need maintenance or replacement over the years is the crown on top. We explain it in how long dental implants last.
What to ask when you compare quotes
If you are comparing us with another quote, in Mexico or at home, compare it part by part, not just the total:
- Does the price include the crown, or only the implant?
- Is the crown porcelain-fused-to-metal or metal-free?
- Does it include a bone graft if you need one, and the extraction?
- Who places the implant and who makes the crown?
- How many visits, and what happens if the implant doesn’t integrate?
A quote that just says “implant” with one number often leaves out the crown, which is the part you actually see.
How to pay
We accept U.S. dollars in cash or by card, Mexican pesos, debit and credit cards, and bank transfers. Dental services in Mexico are exempt from VAT (IVA), so no tax is added. We send your itemized receipt by WhatsApp and can issue a Mexican tax invoice (CFDI) if you need one.
At our office in Mexicali
Implants are placed by Dr. Fidel Machado, a specialist in implantology and prosthodontics. Because he is also a prosthodontist, he plans the tooth that goes on top of the implant from day one. He works mainly on Saturdays, which makes it easier to plan if you cross from Calexico or the Imperial Valley. A periodontist and oral surgeons work in the same office for grafts and difficult extractions, so your whole plan comes from one place with one written quote.
Treatment takes several visits over 3 to 6 months. If you are coming from the U.S., read dental implants in Mexicali from the U.S. to plan your trips. After surgery you get our dental implant aftercare guide in English by WhatsApp, and once your crown is on, our implant crown care guide. Taking good care of it is the best way to avoid paying twice.

Frequently asked questions
Does the implant price include the crown?
No. The implant is the root (USD 800) and the crown is the tooth on top (USD 500–600). Your written plan lists them separately.
How does a bridge compare?
A 3-unit bridge is 3 crowns on natural teeth, each $5,000–$7,500 MXN (≈ USD 303–455). It can cost about the same or less up front, but the neighboring teeth have to be shaved down. We compare all three options in «Implant vs. bridge vs. denture».
Can I pay in pesos instead of dollars?
Yes. Implants are listed in U.S. dollars, but you can pay in Mexican pesos at the office exchange rate of the day, or in dollars by cash or card.
Can I get an idea of my cost before I travel?
Send us a photo or your X-rays by WhatsApp and we can tell you which options are likely in your case. The exact cost is set at your in-person exam, where we check your bone.
Can costs come up in the middle of treatment?
Your written plan includes everything we see at the exam. If the doctor finds during surgery that something else is needed, such as a graft, it is explained to you and you approve it first.
