What you’ll pay at a pediatric dentist comes down mostly to one thing: whether your child is coming in for prevention or to treat cavities. A check-up with a cleaning, plus sealants when it’s time, is the most affordable visit. What raises the total is teeth that already have cavities, because each one is treated separately and some need more than one step. Prices for each treatment are in “Quick facts” and on our price page; your child’s exact total comes in writing after the exam, before anything is done.
The most common treatments for kids
Prevention
- Kids’ cleaning. The first one includes a full exam; after that it’s a follow-up cleaning every 6 months. It’s the visit we do most.
- Sealants. A thin coating that protects the grooves of healthy permanent molars, around ages 6 and 12. Priced per tooth. More in dental sealants for kids.
Treating cavities
- Kids’ filling. For small or medium cavities: the decay is removed and the tooth is filled with tooth-colored material.
- Pulpotomy or pulpectomy. When decay has reached the nerve of a baby tooth. It’s usually followed by a crown.
- Pediatric crown. Covers a baby tooth that’s badly damaged or had nerve treatment. Stainless steel, resin or zirconia.
- Child extraction. When a tooth can’t be saved.
- Space maintainer. If a baby tooth is lost too early, it holds the space for the permanent tooth. One side or both.
What happens at the first visit
At the first visit our pediatric dentist gets to know your child, shows them around and does the exam without rushing, with no surprise procedures. If it’s their first cleaning, it’s done the same day. At the end she explains what she found: if everything is healthy, the next visit is in 6 months; if there are cavities, you get the written plan to review at home. If your child is nervous, see what to do if your child is afraid of the dentist.
What changes the total
Two kids the same age can have very different plans. The biggest factors:
- How many teeth have cavities. Each tooth is treated and priced separately.
- How deep each cavity is. A small one is fixed with a filling; one that reached the nerve needs a pulpotomy and a crown, which together cost several times more.
- The type of crown. Stainless steel is the most affordable; tooth-colored resin or zirconia cost more.
- Losing a tooth early. That may call for a space maintainer.
- Orthodontic appliances. An expander or other growth appliances are evaluated separately.
That’s why we don’t quote a “package” without seeing your child: the written plan says exactly what each tooth needs.
Why prevention usually costs less
A cavity caught early is fixed with a filling in one visit. Left alone, the same cavity can reach the nerve: then your child is in pain and the tooth needs a pulpotomy and a crown, or even an extraction and a space maintainer. Each step costs more and means more visits.
Check-ups every 6 months exist for exactly that: finding cavities while they’re small and sealing healthy molars before decay starts. It’s not a guarantee your child will never get a cavity, but prevention is generally the cheapest and easiest way to look after their teeth. Wondering whether a baby tooth that will fall out is worth fixing? Short answer: yes. See cavities in baby teeth.
Your written plan, before we start
After the exam you get a treatment plan as a PDF on WhatsApp with:
- Each tooth and what it needs.
- The cost of each treatment and the total.
- What’s urgent and what can wait.
Nothing is done until you approve it. If budget is a concern, tell us and we’ll order the treatment by priority across several visits.
For families crossing from Calexico or the Imperial Valley
About one in four of our pediatric appointments in 2026 (26 %) were for families with a U.S. phone number. Here’s what to expect:
- Visits. Our pediatric patients needed about two appointments on average in 2026. Many kids only need a check-up and cleaning.
- Saturdays. We’re open Saturday 9 am to 3 pm and Monday to Friday 10 am to 8 pm, Pacific Time, the same as Calexico.
- Location. About 3 miles from the downtown border crossing (Calexico West), with parking nearby.
- What to bring. The documents your family normally uses to cross, any recent dental X-rays, and a list of medications or allergies. With the appointment confirmation you get a link to fill out the medical history on your phone, so there’s no paperwork at the desk.
- Questions first. Our front desk replies in English on WhatsApp at +52 686 203 1211, the same number from the U.S. If you have questions about paperwork for a U.S. plan, ask us there before your visit.
How to pay
We accept U.S. dollars (cash or card), Mexican pesos, debit and credit cards, and bank transfers. Dental services in Mexico are exempt from VAT, so no tax is added to the list price. Your receipt arrives on WhatsApp, and we issue a Mexican tax invoice (CFDI) if you ask.
When not to wait
Message us soon, even if you’re still thinking about cost, if your child:
- Complains of a toothache or won’t chew on one side.
- Has a swollen gum or face.
- Has a dark spot that’s growing or a visible hole in a tooth.
- Fell and hit a tooth.
Treating early almost always means a simpler fix.

After each treatment, the matching aftercare guide arrives on WhatsApp in English, like kids’ filling care or pediatric crown care. See everything we do on our pediatric dentist in Mexicali page.
Frequently asked questions
What does my child's first visit cost?
If it's their first cleaning, $900 MXN (≈ USD 55), exam included. If you only want an exam, a general consultation is $500 MXN (≈ USD 30). Either way you leave with a written plan on WhatsApp.
Why is everything priced per tooth?
Because each tooth with a cavity is treated on its own: one may just need a filling, another a pulpotomy and a crown. Your written plan lists every tooth, its treatment and the total.
Steel, resin or zirconia crown: which one?
Stainless steel is the toughest and most affordable ($1,800 MXN (≈ USD 109)); resin and zirconia are tooth-colored and cost more. Our pediatric dentist recommends one based on the tooth and your child's age.
Can you give me a price before we cross?
We can share our list prices on WhatsApp, and you'll find them on our price page. The exact total depends on what we find at the exam, and you get it in writing before anything is done.
Can we spread treatment over several trips?
Yes. The plan marks what's urgent and what can wait a few weeks, so you can plan crossings and spending. We just ask you not to put off the urgent part for long.
