A simple extraction at our office starts at the price shown in “Quick facts.” That covers the most straightforward case: a tooth that’s fully visible in your mouth and comes out without surgery. If the tooth is stuck in the bone, coming in crooked, broken, or it’s a wisdom tooth that hasn’t come in, the extraction is surgical and we quote it in writing after your exam, before any work begins. List prices are on our price page.

What makes an extraction cost more or less

Simple vs. surgical

A simple extraction is a tooth that has fully come in and can be removed without opening the gum. A surgical extraction means opening the gum, removing a little bone, or sectioning the tooth to take it out in pieces. It takes longer, uses more materials, and is usually done by an oral surgeon. We explain the difference in simple vs. surgical extraction.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth vary the most. Some come in straight and are removed like a simple extraction; others are impacted (stuck in the bone or pushing against the molar next to them) and need surgery. If you’ve been told they need to come out, read when to remove wisdom teeth first.

The condition of the tooth

A tooth badly broken down by decay, with long or curved roots, or already fractured can be harder to remove than an intact one. That’s why two “molar extractions” can be priced differently.

Extra steps if you plan to replace the tooth

If you want an implant later, it sometimes makes sense to do socket preservation at the same visit, so the bone holds its shape better while it heals. Not everyone needs it. We cover it in replacing a tooth after an extraction.

Why we only list a starting price

Simple extractions are fairly consistent, so we publish that price. Surgical ones aren’t: the cost depends on how the tooth is positioned, how much bone covers it and how long the procedure takes, and that’s only known once we examine you. A flat number for surgical extractions would be a promise we can’t make without seeing you.

What we do promise is the process: after your exam you get a written plan as a PDF on WhatsApp, with the cost of each tooth. Nothing is done until you approve it, and if the surgeon finds something different during the visit, they explain it before going on.

Coming from Calexico or the Imperial Valley

Extractions are the treatment cross-border patients come to us for most: in 2026, 37 % of our extraction appointments were for patients with a U.S. phone number. Here’s what to expect:

  • One visit, usually. Most extractions are done in a single appointment (1.2 visits per patient on average in 2026).
  • Driving back. With plain local anesthesia you can come on your own and drive yourself home. Eat something light 2 to 3 hours before; don’t come on an empty stomach.
  • Bring your information. Tell us about your medications, especially blood thinners like aspirin or warfarin, diabetes and allergies, and don’t stop anything without being told to. Our pre-anesthesia instructions list everything.
  • Send X-rays ahead. If you have X-rays or a plan from your U.S. dentist, send them on WhatsApp before your visit.
  • Same time zone. We’re on Pacific time, like Calexico, about 3 miles from the downtown crossing. Book at +52 686 203 1211 (same number from the U.S.); our front desk replies in English on WhatsApp.

Pull it or save it?

Before pricing an extraction, make sure the tooth really needs to come out. A very painful molar can sometimes be saved with a root canal and a crown. Pulling it is cheapest on the day, but replacing it later can cost more overall. We compare both in root canal or extraction? and dental implant cost in Mexicali.

Why it doesn’t pay to wait

Once a tooth has been marked for extraction, waiting rarely makes it cheaper. A decayed tooth keeps getting weaker, and if it breaks while you chew, a simple extraction can turn into a surgical one because there’s nothing left to grip. A wisdom tooth pushing against its neighbor can damage it over time. And an infection left to grow can make your face swell and complicate the visit.

If budget is the issue, tell us at your exam: your written plan shows what’s urgent and what can wait, so you can plan your trips and your spending.

If something doesn’t feel right afterward

Most extractions heal without trouble when you follow the aftercare guide. Message us on WhatsApp, even from the U.S., if you have:

  • Bleeding that doesn’t stop after 1 hour of firm pressure on the gauze.
  • A fever over 38 °C (100.4 °F).
  • Pain that gets worse after day 2 or 3 instead of easing.
  • A bad taste or smell that won’t go away.
  • Swelling that keeps growing after day 3, or you can’t open your mouth.

Severe pain between days 2 and 4 can be a dry socket; we explain it in what is a dry socket.

How to pay

We accept U.S. dollars (cash or card), Mexican pesos, debit and credit cards, and bank transfers. Dental services in Mexico are exempt from VAT, so no tax is added to the list price. You get your receipt on WhatsApp, and we issue a Mexican tax invoice (CFDI) if you ask for one.

At our office in Mexicali

Our team includes five oral surgeons, and in 2026 they did three out of four of our extractions; simple ones are also done by Dr. Jesara López and our general dentists. Children’s extractions are done by our pediatric dentists.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you list a price for wisdom tooth removal?

Because it varies a lot: a wisdom tooth that's fully grown in is very different from one stuck in the bone or coming in sideways. We list the starting price for a simple extraction ($1,500 MXN (≈ USD 91)) and quote surgical ones in writing after we see you.

Can you give me a price before I cross?

Send us your X-rays or a photo on WhatsApp and we can tell you whether it looks simple or surgical. The exact cost is set at your in-person exam, in writing, before anything is done.

Can I drive back across the border after the extraction?

With plain local anesthesia, yes: you can come on your own and drive home. Plan on a soft, cool diet that day and follow the aftercare guide we send you.

If I need two or four teeth out, how is it priced?

Each tooth is quoted based on how difficult it is, and your written plan shows the total. Whether they can be done in the same visit is up to the surgeon at your exam.

How much would it cost to replace the tooth later?

It depends on the option. An implant with its crown is from USD 1,300 per tooth; if you're planning one, ask about socket preservation (USD 380) before the extraction.
